Champagne Spécial Club

20 October 2021

Created in 1971, "Le Club Trésors" is the first organization of Vignerons, a unique organization in Champagne.

The Club was founded with the aim of making known and discovering the originality of the Champagnes of the Vignerons Indépendants: a pioneering approach at the time, coming from the Vignerons' desire to make known the fruit of their work and their terroir.

Indeed, since its inception, this association has worked to preserve the typicality of the terroir and enhance the specificity of each Cuvée.

A philosophy that is as relevant today as ever.

Called the "Club de Viticulteurs Champenois" in 1971, it changed its name in 1999 to become the "Club Trésors de Champagne".

Today, the Club brings together 28 winegrowers, great enthusiasts, who still and always advocate a very qualitative approach to viticulture and the exaltation of their terroir.

In order to be a member of this very exclusive Club and to market the Club's Cuvées Spécial, each winegrower must meet certain strict obligations.

These are :

- to produce the Cuvées entirely in their own cellars. This means that each stage of the Champagne production process - pressing, vinification, bottling, remuage, disgorging - is carried out exclusively in the domaine.

- to be a récoltant-manipulant and make wine exclusively from the harvest of one's own vineyard

- comply with the Club's "charte viticole" of ethics and quality.

- The Cuvée Spécial Club must be a Millésime.

When nature offers to the Champagne region an exceptional harvest and the "vins clairs" (light wines) are very promising, the Club authorises the production of a Special Club Cuvée.

Each member winemaker is then free to "create his own Cuvée" using the grapes of the vintage and harvested on his estate.

Each "Special Club" Cuvée is submitted to a very demanding jury of professionals (oenologists and winemakers).

The statutes and regulations provide for two blind tastings for its approval:

1.     The first consists of an examination of the blend in "vins clairs" to authorise the mise en bouteille.

2.     The second is to validate the marketing of the Cuvée at the end of the bottle-ageing period (minimum 3 years after bottling).

Only Vignerons who have successfully passed these two tests are considered worthy of being able to propose and market their Cuvée with the "Special Club" bottle.

This bottle is unique in the world and can only be used by members of Club Trésors.

The Cuvées Spécial Club represent the quintessence of each domaine for that specific Millésime.
